New weekly unemployment claims jump to 900, highest in three months

first_imgFor the Week of 10/10/2009. There were 900 new regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance last week, an increase of 97 from the week before. Altogether 9,332 new and continuing claims were filed, the same as a week ago and 3,276 more than a year earlier. The Department also processed 4,661 First Tier claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), 46 more than a week ago. In addition, there were 1,017 Second Tier claims for benefits processed under the EUC08 program, which is an increase of 52 from the week before. Cortella Defoe is the new Miss South 2011.

Photo credit: FacebookThe pageant formed part of activities marking the 20th celebration of Fete Easidore,Grandbay and also showcased the talent of 5 contestants from Grand Bay and surrounding communities.The young ladies made appearances in style and fashion, performing talent, swim wear, evening wear and question and answer segments.Defoe cupped the awards for best talent, Miss Style and fashion, Best evening Wear and Best in Evening wear.She says being crowned Miss South has given her a sense of self assurance.The show was held at Ma Tutu’s Park on Sunday night.Best Swimwear went to First Runner up Zayna Elizee, Second Runner up was Dilla Bruno.The other contestants were Daernelle Galloway who captured the Miss Intelligence award and Alisha Joseph.Meantime Show Producer Carlton Henry says this year’s competition was different from the previous years.Henry says one of the major challenges of hosting the show was the lack of sponsorship.Dominica Vibes News Share 25 Views   no discussions Sharecenter_img Tweet Sharing is caring!
