Lae Christian Academy (LCA) School has set up cricket nets for Cricket PNG’s new inter-school cricket competition, the Gold Nuggets School Kriket Trophy.The competition targets children between the ages of 15 and 19, and is an under 19 inter-school cricket competition for all secondary and primary schools.Regional cricket manager Rodney Maha said the competition was aimed at bridging a pathway gap between the soft-ball BSP School Kriket Program and playing for the national teamsThis is the first of its kind in the province and will expand to the other provinces with NCD the other province set to kick-off their Gold Nuggets School Kriket Trophy in a couple of weeks.“I was surprised to see how serious the school was about trying to win the first Gold Nuggets trophy. They bought new posts, new fencing for the nets and even a new welding machine to build the cricket nets” said regional cricket manager for Morobe, Rodney Maha.Six schools in Bumayong, Lae, Busu Secondary, Coronation College, Maximise School and LCA will start their competition on Saturday the 17th of May when the Gold Nuggets School Kriket Trophy will be launched.
