The 16-kilowatt-hour lithium ion battery will operate the car for an estimated range of 35 miles, after which the car will switch to gasoline mode. The battery re-charge time is around four hours on 240 V.A gallon equivalent is the amount of electrical energy equivalent to the energy contained in one gallon of gasoline. The Nissan Leaf, which does not run on gasoline at all, is rated at 99 miles per gallon equivalent.
