SUU Men’s Basketball Head Coach Todd Simon Named Finalist For Several Prestigious Awards

first_img Brad James FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailCEDAR CITY, Utah-Monday, Southern Utah University men’s head basketball coach Todd Simon was named a finalist for the 2020-21 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award and the 2020-21 Hugh Durham Award.The Durham Award is awarded to the top Division I head coach in mid-major basketball. Durham posted a 634-430 (.596) record as the head coach at Florida State (1966-1978), Georgia (1978-1995) and Jacksonville (1997-2005).The Phelan Award is awarded annually to the best coach in Division I men’s basketball. It is named in honor of Jim Phelan, who coached Mount St. Mary’s from 1954-2003, going 830-524 (.613) and leading the Mountaineers to the 1962 NCAA Division II national title.Phelan’s Mountaineers squad netted 20 or more wins 19 times.The winner of each award will be announced April 1.
